Gilwell Residential 2025
The Year 6 gang have arrived safe and sound at Gilwell Park for their residential trip. The coach journey was quick and easy and we arrived in good time, ready to learn our rooms and groups- how exciting!
After lunch, we all headed off for our first activity of the week in our groups.
All the children ate plenty for dinner, but Mr O'Donnell ate the most! We finished the evening with a quiz and.... we suspect a late night!
Come back tomorrow for more updates- goodnight!

Day 2: Another fun-filled day!
Breaking news: the adults correctly predicted that the children would be so excited and stay up way too late chatting and enjoying themselves, and wish they had managed more than a few hours sleep by morning time. Who'd have thought?!
Still, everyone has been superbly positive and determined with their activities and have played well together in spare time.
We had a lovely visit from Ms. Dover who was missing us all SO MUCH that she had to drive up here to see us. Mr O'Donnell continues to make accelerated progress in his cooking lessons.
We've enjoyed the sunshine and ended the day making our own pizzas and enjoying hot chocolate and marshmallows around the fire. We were even treated to a very special debut performance from Mr O'D!
Everyone was ready for bed this evening!
Day 3: We're half way through our trip and loving every minute!
We were lucky that the rain held off all day and we ended up with some lovely weather!
Activities continued with pedal go-karts, climbing, 3G swing, low ropes and zip wire. We're really pleased with everyone who is attempting all the activities, even if they're a little daunting to start with. Even Mr James made it to the top of the climbing wall! We had to leave him up there though, but we'll pick him up again next year.
The tuck shop remains popular:
We enjoyed our first ever Gilwell roast dinner which went down well and Amber and Darcey helped make the sponge for our pudding.
The evening ended in... interesting 'fashion'. Fashion is a loose term. We had our very own fashion show and the costumes were of a very creative standard. Let's say...
Mr Moore had his hair done specially for the occasion.
Mr O'Donnell's latest culinary adventures have exposed his talent for making a cracking cup of tea. He's also stepped out of his comfort zone and both heated AND served custard successfully. We're very proud of him and all he's achieving.
Oh and say hi to our little visitor today:
Day 4: Sorry for the late update; it's been a busy day!
We enjoyed scrambled eggs and beans on toast for breakfast before a fairly early start for our first activities.
Lots of the children played their first ever games of Molkky (look it up- it's a brilliant game for the garden)... little did they know, they were using their maths skills. Shhhhhh!
We've had so many superstars this week who have offered to help out and Florence and Mishal took charge of hotdogs for lunch- thanks girls!
We didn't expect to celebrate Christmas when we planned the trip, but we take everything in our stride. Merry Christmas to you all and happy New Year. Are we late or early?! Ho ho ho!
We've had such a wonderful time away and made so many brilliant memories. We won't update tomorrow as we'll all be asleep by 6pm! Parents: you will recieve an invite to a celebration meeting a few weeks into term 6 to watch the video and give out some awards.
Oh and p.s. because I know you're all dying to know: Mr O'Donnell has 'finely diced' onions and 'hulled' strawberries today. What a hero... bravo!
