Spelling, Vocabulary, Punctuation and Grammar
Spelling
Spelling is taught throughout the school, following the National Curriculum guidance. From Year R, pupils learn phonemes to build words and as they progress through the school learn alternative spellings and begin to explore spelling rules.
Vocabulary, Punctuation and Grammar
In written work, pupils use appropriate vocabulary, grammar and punctuation as prescribed by the National Curriculum, beginning with capital letters and full stops to punctuate sentences and progressing to a full range of punctuation marks.
Pupils will be taught to use correct grammatical terms in English and the language that they need to discuss their work to ensure that they have a growing vocabulary.
If you have any questions about the curriculum and how it will affect teaching and learning, please see your child’s teacher.
